PRESENT TO LADY JERVOIS.
[by TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] Wellington, Saturday. At the usual reception at Government House, on Tuesday next, a valuable silver casket is to be presented to Lady Jervois, as a token of the esteem in which she is held by the women of New Zealand, who are" the subscribers. It has been manufactured by Mr. S. Kohn (Kohn Brothers), Lambton Quay. In form and quality of design and workmanship, it is a very beautiful gift. Views of Government House, Wellington, Auckland Harbour, Dunedin First Church, and Christchurch buildings are chased on its sides; also, representations of the scenes of the Southern Alps. The corners are worked into representations of the fern tree, the nikau palm, and other specimens of New Zealand flora. The casket is made of totara, lined with blue satin. The following is the inscription : —" Presented to Lady Jervois, as a token of the esteem and regard of her friends in New Zealand, March, 1889."
