A DESPERATE FIGHT WITH BANDITS.
It is reported from tho town of Wolfersdorf, in Bavaria, that a sertone fight has taken place there between tho police and a bodv of bandits. It appears that marauders of this class are only too common in tho sonthern province, and even in Munich the inhabitants are endeavouring to obtain a permanent, increase in tho gendarmerie to ensure the streets against outrage by bands of robbers. At Wolfersdorf the police received information that a band of theso ruffians, who had long troubled tho neighbourhood, were playing cards in a certain inn. Tho commandant of the civic force, Hcrr Stich, eutored the house with some of his men, and attempted to seize the desperadoes. Then followed in tho parlour of the little tavern a battle than which many notable ones have been less fiercely fought. Pistol shots were exchanged, and thrusts of knife and bayonet.. Tho police commandant was mortally wounded by a ball in the abdomen, and his men, being outnumbered, were unable to make any captures. The bandits escaped after a brief, stern light. Commandant Stich died shortly after in the room where the fight occurred.
