ARCHIDIACONAL CONFERENCE.

[by telegraph.— own correspondent.] Te Aroha, Friday. The quarterly Waikato Archidiaconal Conference was held here yesberday in St. Mark's Church. There were presenb : The Ven. Archdeacon Willis (chair%an), Revs. Jas. Marshall, M.A. (Tβ Aroha), Dr. Hoopor (Cambridge), G. Boler (Te Awamutu), 0. C. Biggs (Hamilton), and lay represenbativea from several districts. The proceedings began with a short service, after which the question of Sabbath observance was brought up for discussion, tho subject being introduced by the Rev. Air. Marshall. An animated fiebate ensued, but ib terminated without any action being taken. The Ven. Chairman brought forward a matter which he said he had intended on a former occasion to bring before the Conference —namely, the existing marriage laws, and the evils arising therefrom. He dwelt upon the subject at some length, and moved that more public notice should be given of intended marriages than the prosent law provides, and that this Conference suggests thab the marriage law should be altered, so that the names of persons inbending marriage should be published in bho newspaper of the district where they reside. Tho motion was carried nem. con. It was also resolved that the chairman be requested to bring the matter the Diocesan Synod at its next meeting. The lateness of the hour prevented the consideration of other subjects of importance. It was decided that the next ordinary sitting of the Conference shall be six months hence, at Te Awamutu.
