ARCHHILL LICENSING COMMITTEE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I observe in your paper that you have designated myself and others who were nominated for the Licensing Bench for the Archhill district as the temperance candidates. Well, I think you were not far wrong, because I think all are temperate, but not in the sense that some of the opposite parties might think. Speaking for myself, I can and do drink either wine or beer if I think I need it, and I believe some of my friends who are nominated are of the same way of thinking. But, for aU that, we are going to prevent, if possible, a nuisance in our district by having another drinking shop, and I am surprised to find that some of our principal citizens have lent their names as faggofc voters to obtain for a certain firm the means to enable them to force on a district that which the residents object to.—l am, &c, March 8, 1889.
