THE GOLDFIELDS.

[FROM QDB OWS CORRESPONDENTS.] Thames, Monday. Cambria.—The crosscut at No. 3 level is now in a distance of about 50 feet, and is still passing through an excellent class of sandstone with numerous small stringers of quartz prevailing. There is still a considerable distance to be driven before meeting with the No. 1 leader worked at No. 2 level. The winze at No. 3 level, in the Darwin section, is down a depth of about 12 feet. Both leaders continue to show gold, and a little picked stone was obtained during last week. WAIOMO. Paroqckt. There is nothing new to report from the mine, but the wire tramway is now completed, and the engine, which is to act as an auxiliary to the water motor at the battery has at length arrived, Mr. Chas. Short having delivered it on Saturday last. No time will be lost in placing it in position and making the necessary connections, which will all probably be completed during the present week. Gem.—The working staff in this mine was increased last week, the manager anticipating that ho will soon be able to commence crushing at. the Paroquet battery. The quartz coming to hand from the workings at No. 1 level shows gold when breaking down, and there is no doubt whatever but what it is at least of a payable character. Ostrich.—Prospecting is still beine proceeded with in this claim, but nothing new has lately been developed. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN correspondent.] - : Paeroa, Monday. Mr. J. H. Moore has handed over the Martha mine and battery to the new lessee, Mr. Hollis. Atkinson is expected here tomorrow. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Tkentox.— shaft has been sunk five feet during the week, but the contractor has not timbered up any of it since he started. There is little or no change in the country in the bottom. The engine, ropes, etc., are in good order, and working satisfactorily. New Fearnought.—The country continues the same as mentioned in my previous reports. A vein an inch and a~half in thickness has been intersected showing nice looking mineral. Although no gold has been observed when breaking down the quartz, excellent dish prospects have been obtained by pounding the stone. The drive is going at right angles with the reef, and I can only attribute nqt having as yet intersected the reef to its underlying very flat. Everything is in favour of the reef coining down, and nothing as yet has been intersected that would correspond with it. Once having found it, a splendid block of ground can be opene;! up that will give over 100 feet of backs. lam expecting every day to have the reef to hand.
