BOATING ACCIDENT.
TWO MEN DROWNED. [BY 'TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Grkymooth, Monday. Two men were drowned on Saturday on Lake Brunner by the capsizing of a boat, and several others had a narrow escape. The following are the particulars : —A party of IS went to Mitchell's accommodation house, on the far side of the lake, for a picnic on Saturday. In the evening they came back in two boats. There was not a breath of wind. The largest boat contained 1-1, including all the ladies; the other boat six. Joseph Molloy and Thomas Tuckey (drowned), Jeremiah McCarthy, M. C. C. Henry, Whitnal, Oscar Hiderstrom, and John Williams. The cause of the accident was that Tuokey was reaching up the sail with one foot on the gunwale when the boat overturned. Molloy was seen no more after the capsize - Whihnal got his leg entangled in the ropes. McCarthy, who got hold of the boao a second time, coming up, tried to extricate him, but lie replied, " No use, Jerry, it will not come," meaning ho could not get loose. He bade him good-bye, and asked him to remember him to his son Jack. When Whitnal was rescued afterwards he was insensible, and with great difficulty was brought to by Tuckey was not seen after the capsize. The party were rescued by Mrs. Mitchell in her own boat, who, out of compliment to the party, was escorting them across the Lake, and but for her probably all but McCarthy would have been drowned. A party have gone up to drag for the bodies. The water is about 27 feet deep.
