The Queen-street Wharf was quite busy •cesterdav with the discharging of the direct steamer Tainui and the English ships Dunedin and Waitantji, all of wliinh were putting out their inward freight with all the facilities at their command, while the s.s. \\ aihora and the schooner Maile were actively engaged iii taking in cargo for their respective ports. The bulk of the Tainui's Auckland consignments were landed yesterday in good order and condition, and the big steamer will, this morning, about nine o'clock, be moved alongside the Railway Wharf, where the local portion of her outward cargo (consisting of about 300,0001bs of frozen meat) will be taken cm board. Considerable surprise was yesterday manifested in shipping circles at the non-arrival of the Russian war vessel Nayezdnik, and she is now voted a very slow steamer, or else it is surmised that her destination has been changed. TT At the Sugar Works, _ the barque Hamburg's cargo of sugar from Peoalongan is being quickly landed, and she will probably berth at the Queen-street Whan to take in •freight for Sydney before the end of the week. , , The brigantine Yukawas in the Auckland Dock yesterday for cleaning and sundry repairs. , , , , Having nearly completed her loading of stores and sundries for Rarotonga, Messrs. Me Arthur and Co. schooner Daisy will probably clear and sail to-day for that place. Captain l'iltz, who has chartered the vessel, will take charge other for the trip. The schooner Fleetwing has been placed on. the slip for an overhaul. At the Hobson-strcet Wharf the barquentine Jessie has nearly finished loading up with timber for Sydney, and is expected to sail in a day or so. _ Early yesterday morning the Northern S.S. Co.'s lona arrived from Tauranga and Mercury Bay with passengers and general freight. Shortly after 8 a.m. she got away again, and proceeded on her weekly trip to the Barrier. Shippers and others interested are reminded that the Union S.S. Co.'s Waihora goes South to-day at noon. The barque Northern Chief is to come down from the Sugar Works to-day to the Railway Wharf to discharge the balance of her New-castle coal. Afterwards she is to proceed to one of the East Coast ports to load up for Sydney. The splendid steamer Tainui, of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co.'s line, was an object of threat curiosity and interest to the large numbers of strollers upon the wharf yesterday, and her handsome lines and great size, as well as her .splendid spick and span condition, and the completeness of her labour-saving appliances, were the subjects of much admiring comment. A remarkable specimen of the modern style of American shipbuilding, arrived on the sth instant in Sydney, in the shape of the fourmasted fore-and-aft schooner W. F. Witzman, from Port Townsend with timber. The four masts arc exactly of the same height, aud though the vessel was so piled up on deck ■with timber, carrying as she does half of her • cargo in this manner, she was not seen to advantage in her present trim, yet there was enough to justify the report of her master that she i.s a most handsome craft. She is 449 tons register, is but 18 month* old, and was built at Eureka, Huinboldt Bay. She left Port Townsend on November 3, and though meeting with rough weather made the run to Sydney in 02 days.
