TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB. [hy telegraph.—press association.] New Plymouth, Thursday. The second day's racing of the Taranaki Jockey Club Summer Meeting was fairly successful, tho weather being dull, and the attendance only medium. The results are as follow: — Grandstand Handicap of 75eovs. —Rufus. 1 ; Marlborough, 2; Cushla, 3. Eramott ana Escutcheon were scratchod. Tho ilag fell to an indifferent start, the colours of Rufus being in front, and Marlborough a couple of lengths behind. At the back of the course Marlborough tried to close on the loader, but his effort was of no avail, and Rufus, full of running, won comfortably by a couple of lengths. Time, lmin 33sec. Dividend, £3 4s. Second Handicap Hurdle Rack, of 50 sovß. —Armourer, 1; Clarice, 2; Jubilee, 3. Pretender and Bluebell also ran. Pretender was the favourite, with Bluebell next in demand. Jubilee got away first, Bluebell and Pretender close up, but at the mile post J übilee and Bluebell wore running together, Armourer last. When a mile and a-quarter had been traversed Armourer closed up, and Blueboil dropped back beaten. Pretender soon followed her example, and Armourer leading into the straight came on and won. Dividend, £6 17s Hack Hordlis.—Leclair, 1; Liberator, 2; Tommv, 3. Won with a bit to spare. Dividend, £1 \As. Midsummer Handicap of 12osovs. —Marlborough, 1; Escutcheon, 2; Clogs, 3. Clogs and Eecutcheon were most fancied. The race was a procession, Marlborough getting the best of the start, and holding ic all the way. Escutcheon ran a big race, but the weight told, and he could only get a good second. Time, 2min 34sec. Totaliaator, £132, Escutcheon, 54; Clogs, 68; Marlborough, 20. Dividend, £5 18s. Hack Racjs.—Toatoa, 1 ; Cracksman, 2; Mistletoe, 3. Dividend, £3 10s. Provincial Handicap of 45sovs.— Ruapehu, 1; Emmott, 2 ; Armourer, 3. Eileen was scratched. Emmett was quickest on his legs, and led past the stand the first time, Ruapehu close behind. At the three-quarter mile poat Ruapehu went up to Enamett, and the two raced to tho mile post, where the former drew slightly away, the whip being out to Emmett. Armourer now began to come up, but Ruapehu had things as he liked, and won by a length and a - half, Armourer a good third. Time, lmin 51£seo. Dividend, £2 sa. Consolation Handicap of 25sove.—Pretender, 1; Clogs, 2; Tommy, 3. Only three started. This was a magnificent race. Pretender led for the greater part of the distance, when Farrell brought Clogs up, and a desperate struggle ensued, Pretender winning by a head. Time, lmin 40sec. Dividend, £1 Us. A pony race was won by' Leo.
