POVERTY BAY TURF CLUB. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Gisborke, Tuesday. The Poverty Bay Turf Club opened their annual meeting to-day. The following are the results —
Hcrdle Handicap.— 1: Harold, , 2: Peter Osbeck, 3. Darnley, The Moor, and Tredeagle also started. Peter Osbeck was first away, but Ariel subsequently took the lead, and after a good race in the straight with Harold, won. Dividend, £4 6s. The Hack Hurdle Race was won by Gipsy. Dividend, £5 12s. Flying Handidaf of lOOsovs, threequarters of a mile.— Florin, 1: Man Friday, 2; Audacity, 3. Dancing Master and Impostor were the other starters. A food race ensued in the run home between &dv Florin and Man Friday, the former winning by half a length.' "Time, lmin SOfsec. Dividend, £1 17s. Maiden Plate of 40sovs, one mile. —Luna, 1; Turihau, 2 ; Titbit 3. Bedford, Thyme, and Myth also ran. Luna was never headed, and won easily. Time, lmin 52sec. Dividend, £15 lis. Tubaxga Stakes of 250sovs, two miles. —Man Friday, 1 ; Lady Norah, 2; Nora, 3. Bit o' Blue also ran. Lady Norah had the best of the race, and finished first by half-a-length, but was not allowed fir3t money, a protest that Man Friday was jammed against the rails being upheld. Time, 3min 44_sec. Dividend, £G6"s.
The racehorse Signess was sold yesterday, at Hamilton, to Mr. Halcrow, for the sum of 55 guineas, with a further twenty guineas out of its first win. Signess is by Cap-a-pie out of Fishplate, and was bred by Mr. J. C. Booth, of Hamilton. British Lion and Little Scrub have been scratched for the Wellington Cup, and Ravenswing for the Dunedin Cup. In the weights for the Te Awamutu Cup, which appeared yesterday, Mantilla's weight was given as 7st 31b instead of 7st 131b. The gates, privileges, &c, in connection with the Takapuna Jockey Club's Meeting, on 26th and 29th January, are to be offered by auction at Messrs. Tonka & Co.'s mart on Friday next at noon.
