NARROW ESCAPE FROM DROWNING.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Hamilton, Tuesday. I A lad about thirteen years of ago, son of Mr. Meredith, of tho Royal Hotel, had a narrow escape from drowning to day. Ho was bathing with other boys in tho neighbourhood of the East Hamilton Baths, and though an expert swimmer was caught in the weeds growing on the edge of a mudbank, a little below the baths. The boys with him were unable to render him any assistance, but his agonised cry was fortunately heard by tho foreman of works and Messrs. Wright and Wilson, engaged in cleaning out the silt from tho East Hamilton Baths. Mr. Wright got a long piece of wood, and pushing it towards the lad enabled him to keep afloat till lie was rescued from the clutches of the subaqueous vegetable monster, which, with its octopus-like arms, had nearly engulphed him.
