HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board met yesterday evening. Mr. Atkin presided, and the?e were also present:— Messrs. Bell, Holland, Gooseman, Mays, Ambury, Udy, Dignan, Buckland, and Col. Dawson.
Outdoor Relief.—The House Committee were authorised to purchase a horse, saddle, and bridle for the use of Dr. Bell whilst attending to the business of outdoor relief.
Hospital Staff.—The Visiting Staff recommended that Drs. Lindsay and Bell be reappointed the Resident Staff at the Hospital. The gentlemen named wrote, expressing their willingness to continue in the position. Mr. Udy promised that he would submit a motion upon this subject at a future date, dealing with the question of salaries in connection with the positions of Resident Physician and Surgeon. It was resolved, upon the motion of Mr. Atkin, " That in terms of the rules and regulations, Dr. Haines be appointed a member of the Honorary Consulting Staff." The Board also agreed, upon the motion of Mr. Mays, " Thab the thanks of the Board be tendered to the Honorary Medical Staff for their services during: the past year." Rkduction of Hospital Charges.— Mr. Charles Barwell, formerly a patient at the Hospital, wrote that he had been dismissed from that institution as incurable, and subsequently cured by Dr. Beale, and he asked that the charges incurred by him for maintenance in the Hospital be reduced. The matter was referred to the House Committee.
Relief to Natives.—The Wanganui Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote requesting that the Auckland Board cooperate in a protest against a decision of the Government that natives requiring relief or free medical attendance should be relieved by local bodies who are in receipt of subsidies. It was agreed to reply that the Auckland Board was not concerned in the matter.
The Case of the Gomez Children.—A communication from the Rev. W. J. Habens stated that inquiries made. # as to whether Mrs. Gomez should receive the control of her children, now in the Kohimarama Home, were not entirely satisfactory, and the children would therefore remain in the Home. It will be recollected that Mrs. Gomez received a large sum of money recently, and wished to regain the control of her children.
Maternity Ward.— Mr. Atkin gave notice that he would move at next meeting, "That the maternity ward at the Hopital be closed on the Ist May next."
