DISTRIBUTION OF SCHOOL PRIZES.

ST. JOSEPH'S SCHOOL.

The annual gathering for the distribution of prizes to the children attending St. Joseph's Convent School, Parnell, took place on Wednesday, and amongst those present were His Lordship Bishop Luck, Monsignor McDonald, Dr. Egan, Fathers O'Sullivan, Lenihan, O'Gara, and Gillan ; Mr. Tempest, Mr. and Mrs. Flannery, Mrs. Fitzgibbon, Mr. and Mrs. Lane, Mrs. McCabo, and a large number of the parents and friends of the pupils, and a Christmas tree, which was erected in the school, proved a very attractive feature. The following programme was rendered by the pupils :— Hymn, " ITeart of the Holy Child;" recitation, " Christinas Home ;" song, "The Little Girl and the Robin ;" dialogue, " Looking at Home ;" recitation, "Thu Two Blacksmiths;" song. "The Spider and His Wife;" recitation, "Tho Cripple Boy;" recitation, "Thu Diamond Ring;" song, "Under the Willows;" dialogue, "The Evil Adviser;" song. " This is our Yearly Jubilee ;" dialogue, " The IricTh Tattlers;" rfcoitation, "Little Itobln Redbreast;" song, "My Own New Zealand Home." Frizes were then distributed as follows :—

STANDARD V.—Daisy Kay, prize for writing ; Lviha Creinen, Ist prize for study and writing ; W illie Neville, Ist prize for recitation ; Harold Ruthven, superior prize for religious knowledge; Hannah Sullivan, Ist prize for attendance and religious knowledge (given by Rev. Father Oillan) ; Charlotte Dowd, prize for good conduct; Louisa Sextie, special prize for composition and writing ; mlhu Hallins, prize for arithmetic. Standard IV.—John Markey, prize for general improvement; Thomas tannery, Ist prize for attendance (Kov, Father Gillan); 'Peter Hansen, for recitation; Mary Hansen, for spoiling ; Edward Markey, prize for spoiling; Mathew "Walsh, Ist prize for rending ; John O'Sullivan, 2nd prize for reading : .Maggie DeLuca, prize for religious knowledge ; Winilifred Wordsworth, prize for politeness ; Eleanor Wordsworth, prize for writing. .Standard 111.—Herbert Hallina, prize for spoiling ; Michael Hogan, Ist prize for writing ; Michael C'remen, prize for religious knowledge; lilesha Me»'atferty, prize for study ; Inez Konnealy, gild prize for writing; Frederick Tomlinson, 2nd' prize for attendance ; Norman Christopher, prize for attendance. Many other junior children received prizes for attendance.

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST'S SUPERIOR SCHOOL.

The visitors then adjourned to the select school, which was very handsomely decorated ; and the following programme was rendered with excellent taste by the pupils :— Duet, galop on two pianos, Misses Flaniierv, Fitz. gibbon, and Carroll; hymn to the Sacred Heartaddress to His Lordship by Miss A. Hogan ; hymn,' Hy Hither ;" duet, "Moss Rose Waltz" (on two pianos), Misses Neville, McCabe, Caroll, and George ; song and chorus, "The Old Land and the New;" recitation, " Santa, Claus and the Mouse" by young ladies; piano solo, "Long, Long Ago" Master Neville ; recitation, " Baby's Christmas," Misses ('. Coujilaud and Hodgson; piano solo (waltz), Master Hallins ; recitation, "Mr. Nobody " Miss May Hodgson; recitation, "Sturdy Jim," Misses Neville, McCabo, and Hogan ; duet (mazurka), Misses McCarthy and George ; drama, "A Slight Mistake;" duet, ".Sweet Briar" mazurka (on two 'pianos), Misses Caroll, McCu.be, Neville, and George; song, "Come Back to Krin," Miss Fernandez ; piano solo, " Home, Sweet Home," Miss Caroll; song, "Mr. Mulcaher," Master John Fernandez ; piano solo, " Killarney," Miss Fitzgibbon ; Chorus, "Coo, Coo, Pretty Pigeon choruses '• Buttercup,"and "Blue Bells," from "Red Riding Hood."

ST. MARY'S, PONSONBY. Prizes were presented yesterday to the pupils of St. Mary's Convent Schools, ronsonby. The proceedings opened with a very enjoyable entertainment by the pupils, Bishop Luck and Fathers Egan, Downey, O'Gara, Lenihan and Mahoney, and a number of parents and friends being present. An address of welcome was delivered by Master E. Dervan. Miss Mary Stead delivered an effective recitation, "No Room for Him," a very pretty tableau, arranged by the Sisters of Mercy, representing the crib of our Blessed Lord at Bethlehem. Miss Lily Thomson sang "The Exile of Erin" with charming taste, a hidden chorus, "Home, Sweet Home," adding to the harmonious effect. A comic recitation by Miss Laura Haven was well received ; and Miss Delia Dervan gained a meed of praise for her excellent recital of " The Tea-party (gossips," which caused great amusement. Miss Elsa Larkin recited "The Stargazers"—a poem which, because of its length, is a great tax upon the memory. It was delivered with clearness and precision. Several of the numbers given at the concert held at the Convent buildings on Friday last were repeated with good effect. At the close of the entertainment the prizes wore distributed by Bishop Luck, the following being the award list:—
