UPPER MAHURANGI ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Upper Mahurangi Highway District Board was held in the Board's office, Warkworth, on Wednesday, the 14th instant. Present: Messrs. Thomson (chairman). Moor, King, and B. H. MeKinney. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. The following tenders were opened Contract No. 56: G. Guest, £2 5s ; H. Snell, £2; A. A. Thomson (accepted), £1 ss. Messrs. Andrews and Oakes waited on the Board re Oakes' Road through the education reserve. A committee was appointed to inspect and mark off a road, and report to the next meeting. Messrs. Thomson, King, and MeKinney reported having inspected the road through the property of the late J. Tostivan, and stated that to open up the surveyed road would incur great expense, and would require two bridges worth about £25 each, within 50 varas of each other, and that by a short deviation a road could be got at a cost of about £5. The Board resolved to endeavour to purchase the extra piece of land. A letter was received from Mr. Gillingham re Kourawhero Hill Road, informing the Board that the matter was placed in the hands of Mr. Angove. A letter was received from Mr. H. M. Wilson, C.E., stating that the plans of the Hepburn Creek Road would be forwarded immediately. Other letters were received from Messrs. T. B. Hawkins, Thome, Survey Office, and Public Works Department. A number of small accounts were passed for payment. The demands on the resources of the Board, notwithstanding what your Mullet Point correspondent correctly says regarding the cheap rates of wages, are greatly in excess of its income. Correspondent.]
