At the dinner at the St. George's Club this evening, Sir Saul Samuel, who presided, said that although the Colonial Office made occasional mistakes, he was satisfied it was still desirous of doing its utmost in the interests of the colonies. THE APPOINTMENT OF GOVERNORS. London, November 14. In the House of Commons Mr. Hen-niker-Heaton has given notice of a question asking Government to give tne text of the roquests made by the Queensland and South Australian Governments with respect to the appointment of Governors for the respective colonies. ATTEMPT ON PRINCE FERDINAND. Sofia, November 14. An attempt was made to-day to assassinate Prince Ferdinand, but without success.

SECRET SERVICE MONEY.

.London, November 14. In. the House of Commons last night a discussion was taken as to the disposal of secret service money. The Irish members strongly opposed the grant, asserting that a portion of the sum had been used by the Government to subsidise the Times' case against Mr. Parnell. Mr. W. H. Smith, replying to this accusation, gave a positive denial that any money had been improperly used by the Government, ana he outlined in detail the expenditure, without disclosing the particular payments made to individuals.

BIDDING AT WOOL SALES. London, November 13. Wool importers have effected a compromise regarding the bids at wool sales. It has been arranged that farthing bids shall be accepted up to lOd, and on wool above that value halfpenny bids.
