FORTH AUCKLAND HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

A. MKr.Tfva of this Board was held in the Council Chambers, Whangarei, on the 12th %and 13th inst. The following' counties were represented : —Whangarei, Messrs. Carter, ; Brown, and Wilson ; Otamatea, Mr. Snel< ling; Hobsou, Messrs. Beart and Masefield ; Bay of Islands, Mr. Ward ; haugaroa, Mr. Lane. The Hokianga and iJiangonui counties were not) represented. The minutes of the previous meetings were iread, also of committees hold since last meeting of the Board on the 25th April last. On the question of the confirmative of the minutes being put, the attention of the Board was called by Mr. Wilson, the chairman, io a report of the proceedings of the Hobson County Council at one of its recent sittings, where it was stated the 3Board had no authority for sending a petition to the House of Representatives on the subject of the separation oi the district, land the members, Messrs. Beart and Mass'field, were referred to. Accounts. —The accounts were then considered, and it was found that claims amounting to £34s> 10s were before the Board. These were all passed for payment, '■with the exception of £14 Is 3d, which was objected to, and the following resolutions were then parsed by the Board :—No. 1 : Resolved, '"That the accounts be passed -for payment aa read with the exception of "£l4 Is 3d, and that the attention of the chairman of the different counties be called to resolution No. S, passed at the Board's 'meeting on December 7, 1887, and request that it be strictly adhered to." No. 2 : Resolved, " That each county chairman be requested to send in to this Board monthly j returns of the charitable aid dispensed by their counties, the return to include cases ■eent for hospital treatment." No. 3: Resolved, "That active measures be at once taken to recover from those persons who have received hospital treatment, or their Srienchi and relations, who are believed to be in a position to pay the whole or a portion of the cost of such hospital treatment." No. 4: Resolved, "That this Board will not grant charitable aid to parties owning any properties, real or personal, without a lien thereon being first givon to the Board, as it cannot recognise as a pauper anyone owning property.'' !No. 5 : Resolved, " That it is the opinion of this Board desirable, wherever possible, to make yearly contracts with 'he local medical men for the cases that the Board may be liable for." No. 6: Resolved, " That the chairman and treasurer be authorised to pay uhe travelling expenses oi the members of the Board attending this meeting upon receipt of the usual declaration." -Miscellaneous. —A great many other questions came under the consideration of tne Board in connection with the hospital charges, the issue of charitable aid, and such matters. Second Day.—The second day's meeting beinj concluded early on Saturday, Mr. Ward, from the Bay of Islands County, proposed a vote of thanks to the chairman, Mr. J. J. Wilson, for the manner in which he had conducted the business during the year. This was be seconded by Mr. Snelling, of the Otarnatea, and acknowledged by Mr. Wilson, who thanked them for their courtesy, and as this was the last meeting for the year, lie hoped they would get a better chairman next year.—[A Correspondent.]
