[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wanganui, Tuesday. The annual meeting of the Wauganui Boating Club took place to-night. The election of officers took place as follows : —■ President, H. T. Fitzherbert; Wee-presi-dent, W. Alexander ; captain, Ward Butler ; deputy captain, Peter Sim. It was resolved that the Club purchase two double sculling stump outriggers, and that the Club be represented at the general meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association at Wellington. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £23, and outstanding subscriptions £27. Wellington, Tuesday. The libel action brought by the Hon. Mr. Larnach against the New Zealand Herald will be heard before a special jury in Wellington at the January sittings of the Supreme Court. The Minister of Publio Works and the Minister of Education will probably leave here on Monday on a month's visit to Melbourne. In the Bankruptcy Court to-day Henry H. Travers, a clerk, applied for his discharge, which the creditors did not oppose Judge Richmond thought the bankrupt had been rash in mining speculations, and withheld his discharge tor twelve months. Steps are being taken by the Government to advertise the attractions to tourists afforded by the colony. Four maps have been prepared by the Survey Department, showing respectively the Thermal Springs district of the North Island, the Mount Cook glacier region, the Lake Wakatipu and Clutha River system, and the West Coast Sounds, with lakes Te Anau and Manapouri, and the routes to be followed in travelling to each place. Several thousand copies of each map will be published gratis, and will be circulated through the mediums of the Agent-General's Department, the Melbourne Exhibition, and the shipping offices in various parts of the world. Westport, Tuesday. George Mears, for assault with intent to commit a rape, was committed to the District Court for trial. Invercargill, Tuesday. At the Police Court to-day, John B. Vernon, quartermaster of the Hauroto, was charged with having attempted to murder Norman McDonald by endeavouring to throw him over the Bluff Wharf on 6th September. The circumstances of this case have already been published. The accused was committed for trial.
