WELLINGTON NEWS NOTES.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Tuesday. MINISTERIAL MOVEMENTS. It is stated that the Hon. Mr. Mitchclson and the Hon. Mr. Fisher will proceed to Melbourne on Monday next, and that they will be absent for three weeks or a month. The Hon. Mr. Fergus will return to Wellington about the end of next week. lam informed by the Minister of Lands that he intends to visit Auckland during the recess, but he is hot at present able to fix the date. MAGISTERIAL CHANGES. Dr. Giles will proceed to Christchurch to take tho place of Mr. Beetham, who has obtained leave of absence. It was reported that Mr. Spencer Von Stunner would be transferred to Hokitika, but the department of Justice knows nothing of the reported transfers. Mr. Stratford, formerly of the Thames, now of Oamaru, is to be appointed District Judge. STATUTORY AND JUDICIAL OFFICERS. Mr. R. Macallister, formerly Provincial Auditor, who was retrenched last year, has written a pamphlet, the argument of which is a denial of the right of the Government to dispossess him of his office. Mr. Macallister accepted, under protest, compensation amounting to £978. He claims that his otlice was hold under statute tenable for life, and not terminable by the Government.
