CHURCH UNION AND THE PAN ANGLICAN SYNOD.
TO TIIK EDITOR. SiR, —Permit me to call the attention of "S.H." to the fact that there are two rubrics and two things ofl'ered—" Alms and other devotions " and " bread and wine" on the one hand, and "alms and oblations" on the other. I know of no Prayer-book commentator who does not takes these in pairs, as evidently does Bishop Cowie, and I hear for the firrtb time Dr. Ryle quoted as an authority in the matter. If wo take " S.H.'s " explanation as thecorrect one, ic c more than my own, removes tho Bishop's utterance out of the roach of suspicion, but) it at tho same time rotnoves it from the region of common sense, inasmuch as the thing being self-evident, there could be no possible reason for its having been uttered. —lam, etc., X.
