BANKRUPTCY.

MEETING OF CREDITORS. W. H. Subritzky.—A first meeting of creditors in the estate of this bankrupt was held yesterday, at the office of the Official Assignee. Present: The debtor and his solicitor (Mr. .). B. Russell) ; creditors— Messrs. Ivey (Bank of New South Wales), Tevvsley (Sargood, Ewon and Co.), Beetham and Cuthbertaon (A. Laybourne). The first sworn statement was taken as read. The second one, not having been published, was then read, and also the Assignee's instructions to Mr, Tallis, who had been appointed to proceed to Ohora to investigate and report. After some discussion, it wjis resolved to adjourn till that day fortnight (October 26), pending receipt of Mr. Tallis's report. DEBTOR'S EXAMINATION. George Bishop.—This bankrupt was examined yesterday by the Official Assignee. He stated, on oath, that his bankruptcy was caused by his being sued fora bill of £9 10s without receiving intimation, and as there were bills coming due at the end of the current month that would have been diffi cult for him to meet, he filed in the interest of all concerned. He had had to borrow £150 three years ago to make additions to his property, and then another £150 on this property, chiefly on account of family expenses, which of late years had been more than he could afford out of the profits of a diminished trade. On his property, which was valued at £650, he owed £280 10s, and he had been offered £400 for it since he failed. Ho thought this surplus, and his other assets, would pay his legitimate creditors '20s in the £, and leave something over. Petition*. — Hugh Gibson, carter and horsedealer, of Auckland, filed his petition to be adjudged a bankrupt.
