THE VICTORIAN MEETINGS. [press association.] Melbourne, October 12. The first day's racing of the Victorian Amateur Turf Club commences at Caulfield to-morrow, but there is little or no wagering over the events. For the Caulfield Cup, which is run on the following Saturday, 10 to 1 is taken about Plutarch. For the V.R.C. Derby Ensign has advanced, and 5 to 1 is taken and wanted. For the Melbourne Cup 1000 to 120 has been taken about Carlyon, and Malua and Bravo have been supported at 100 to 6. Toastmaster has been struck out of the Caulfield Guineas, and Magazine out of the V.R. C.Derby. 1000 to 90 lias been taken about Plutarch for the Caulfield Cup, and 100 to 10 is now the best oner. 3000 to 150 was taken about Pakeha. This morning Redbourne did half a mile in 54sec., Agues covering the same distance in 53aec. Whakawai did a strong twomile gallop in 3min 52sec.
