INSPECTOR BAYLEY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —A great deal has been written and said against Inspector Bayley being appointed to the Auckland district, and I believe a good many are talking about what they know little or nothing about. Firstly, how do they know that Air. Bayley is not the best judge of sheep and their diseases in the whole of New Zealand Secondly, why do they judge a man (who is in the unfortunate position that he can't reply to the attacks made upon him) upon the remarks made at up-country meetings, got up in Mr. Elliott's interests, by those that) know nothing whatever about Mr. Bayley, except what Mr. _ Elliott vouchsafes to tell them. Surely this is not English fair play style. I have no doubt myself that a little Auckland jealousy is at the bottom of this great cry. They imagine that Mr. Bayley has been deposed from his position because he was found to bean inefficient sheep inspector, whereas it was entirely to do with the management of the Department asa whole, and not as a sheep inspector at all. I quite believe, from what I know of Mr. Bayley, that if he comes here he will give the greatest satisfaction, and if leaving io three months' time Parliament would b® petitioned to retain him.—l am, &c., Audi Alteram Partem.
