OUR RAILWAYS: STATIONS FIFTEEN MILES OUT.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —When I wrote my letter of the 2nd Mr. Shepherd's letter published in yours of the Ist wa,s before me. As he stated that it was information given to him at a railway station, I did not doubt its accuracy, nor did it in the least surprise me, as it would have been in strict accordance with the present policy, and not a jot more senseless than other things that are daily taking place. After all, it is only anticipating a little, for if the present nosystem is persisted in much longer, stations nearer Auckland than fifteen" miles will have to be closed. As there is nothing fixed in any of our railway regulations, it is impossible for any man to keep posted up in them, for an alteration may be published in the Gazette and telegraphed here long before the Gazette itself arrives.—l am, &c., Samuel Vaile. Auckland, 6th October, 1888.
