t_FROM OUK OWN CORRESPONDENTS. J Hamilton, Monday. Mb. John Knox disposed of two properties on Saturday. For the first, the equity of redemption in eorne seven acres and cottage mortgaged to the Building Society, the property of Mr. H. P. McPherson, there was spirited bidding, the land being almost adjacent to the borough. It was knocked down to Mr. Castleton tor £46". The lease of a rood of land near the traffic bridge was knocked down to Mr. Williamson for £4 per annum. A blacksmith's shop will be erected upon it. At the monthly meeting of the Hamilton Highway Board on Saturday there were present : Mr. W. Jones (chairman), and Messrs. Manders, Atkinson, Way, and Livingstone. It was resolved that the proposed works at Partington's-: Hill, on the old Whatawhata Road, should be held over until the Newcastle Road Board moved in the matter. A mm of £3 0s 10d, rates overpaid by Mr. Jolly, ,vas ordered to be refunded. It was resolved iiat no new works be undertaken by the Board Sefore the beginning of the new year. Jarnes Barstable, against whom two previous convictions were recorded, was sentenced on Saturday by Messrs. Knox and Searaucke to six months' imprisonment with hard labour, for stealing a bottle of brandy from off the shelves in the bar of the Waikato Hotel. He was sentenced to a second term »f six months for a similar oftence, the seneuces to run concurrently. Ohaupo, Mondav. A meeting of farmers has been called by Ur. J. H. Scott, of Paterangi, and Mr. Wat;on, of Pukekura, for discussing tho question vhether seeds, manures, etc., could not bo obtained at lower prices than at present by ooperatiou. Doubtless merchants would Dβ enabled to supply at lower figures if tho smaller orders of individual farmers were merged into one large line. The late copious rains of Saturday and 'esterdav have been very acceptable. Waitoa, Monday. A school at the Waitoa Valley is much seeded, as there are getting quite a number »f children here of the school age. The. jettlers are quite willing to assist the Board m the building of a school-house, if one is irected.
[by telegraph.—own corkespondknts.J Cambridge, Monday. The residence of W. Moisly, bootmaker, was destroyed by fire this evening at seven o'clock. The origin of the fire is unknown, as the family were away at the time. The house wae situate in Grey-etreet, and is Relieved to be insured. Nothing waa saved.
