THE VICTORIAN MEETINGS. [press association.] Melbourne, October 8. This was an off morning at Flemingbon, consequently no important work was done. Recent rains have rendered the training tracks very heavy. Carlyon, attended by Plutarch, was sent a round on the ton, accomplishing the journey in lmin 54sec. The two-year-olds Pippo, Sinecure, and Rudolph spurted half-a-mile in 57sec. Excellent accounts have been received of Don Giovanni and Lonsdale. The Charmer and Chicago continue to hold pride of position in the betting for the Caulfield Cup, and 100 to S is taken freely. The latest quotations for bhe V.R.C. Derby are : —Melos, 7 to 2 offered, 4 bo 1 wanted ; Carbine, 5 to 1 wanted ; Ensign, (300 to 90, taken ; Lonsdale, 7 to 1 offered ; Volley, '200 to 20, taken. The following are the labesb scratchings : —Melbourne Cup: Lagrange and Ganymede. Caulfield Cup: Lagrange.
