ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
A meeting of the council of the above society was held in the Museum Buildings on the 2nd inst., when there were present : —Messrs. A. Bull (in the chair), J. Burtt, J. A. Connell, E. Harrow, and T. B. Hill. The minutes of the last meeting were read, as also the monthly financial statement, which showed the receipts to be £10 10s ; payments, £35 0s 8d ; balance in bank, £206 0s 10d. Trout.—The secretary, Mr. T. F. Cheeseman, stated that the result of the season's trouthatchingwasasfollows: Rainbowtrout, 4500 ; brown trout, 4500 ; brook troub, 400. The young fry were active and healthy, and promised to do well. Of last year's fish there still remained about 100 young brown trout that were not required for breeding purposes. Mr. Connell suggested that some of these should be placed in the Southern Wairoa. It was at length resolved to forward 75 to Patetere and 25 to Wairoa, the arrangements for the conveyance of the last to be made by Mr. Connell. Licences fob Trout-fishing.—Mr. Connell said that trout had been placed in a large number of streams in the provincial district, and in some of them many lots had been put. He had heard reports of fully grown trout having been seen, and in his opinion the time had come for testing the streams, and ascertaining what success the Society had achieved. He would, therefore, move, " That the Colonial Secretary be requested to proclaim all the counties in the Auckland Provincial District, excepting the counties of Cook, Whakatane, and Tauranga, open for trout-fishing witli rod and line, and that the licence fee be £1." Considerable discussion took place, and the motion was eventually carried. Mr. Bull and Mr. Connell were requested to report to the Society on chose streams which were found to contain trout. Several letters on unimportant or local matters addressed to the Society were considered, and the usual monthly accounts were passed for payment, after which the meeting separated.
