The mail steamer Alameda sailed yesterday afternoon for San Francisco at 4 o'clock". From an early hour in the morning she had been engaged in replenishing her coal bunkers, and took away upwards of (KX) tons. She also shipped a few tons of mixed freight from this port, included amongst which were 11 boxes gold, valued at £43,600, and 10 boxes sovereigns, worth £50,000, in addition to which she had on board specie from Australia worth £20-1,911, making a total of £298,511. She took 22 passengers from Auckland, and has 92 in transit. As usual, at the departure of the San Francisco boats, the Avhart was lined with a large crowd of spectators when she moved away from the tee. About cwo p.m. yesterday the Union S.S. Co.'s Manapouri arrived from the South and Melbourne with passengers, live stock, merchandise, and grain. Mr. Hudson, the paper, kindly supplies the following report of the trip :— The Manapouri left Williamstown on the 35th ult.,ann arrived at Hobart on the 27th. She sailed again the same day, and arrived at the Bluff on the Ist inst.; she sailed the same day, and called at Dunedin on the 2nd, Lyttelton on the 4th, Wellington on the 6th, Nanier on the 7th, and Gisborne on the same date ; she rounded the East Cape at 5.45 on the 7th, and passed Tiritiri at 12.30 a.m. yesterday, and arrived at the wharf as above. The Manapouri experienced fine weather to Hobart, thence to Blur!strong N.W. Avinds, with high sea prevailed. From Blurt' to Wellington she had strong N.W. winds, the ship being detained in Wellington until daylight, next morning through stress of weather. From Wellington to Gisborne moderate weather was experienced, and from Gisborne to the East Cape and aeoss tiie bay fresh weather, with strong S. W. winds. The Union S.S. Co. have placed the s.s. Maitai on the Kasr Coast trade between Wellington and Auckland, in conjunction with tiie s.s. Australia, thereby re-establish-ing the weekly service, which was temporarily discontinued on account of the loss of the Suva. The Maitai will leave Wellington for this port on Wednesday. Yesterdav evening the s.s. Wellington arrived from Whangarei, with passengers and freight. At the Calliope Dock, Mr. J. Bisielow, whose tender for executing the repairs to the Swedish barque Stavanger has been accepted by the agents, Messrs. Cruickshauk and Co., will start operations on that vessel ' to-day. The shin Wairoa will begin discharging her cargo to-day at the Queen-street Wharf. Yesterday the barquentine Silver Cloud was cleared out for Melbourne via Mercurv Bay. She will fill up at the latter port with timber for the Victorian capital. The Northern S.S. Co.'s vessels took their departure Uist night for their regular ports : The Clansman for Russell, the lona for Tauranga, and the Douglas for Opotiki. The Jubilee S.S. Co.'s Stormbird also left at her usual hour for Whangarei, etc. All were fairly patronised by passengers and freight. On Wednesday the ship Crusader is expected to get away and sail for London direct, with a full cargo of varied colonial products. She finished loading last evening. Donald and Edenborough's island steamer Richmond will sail for Tonga, Tahiti, etc. She has her ! hatches full of a varied cargo, and takes several imssengers and a quantity of live ' stock. The departure of the s.s. Taupo from Dunedin has been postponed till Friday next, and she is therefore not expected to arrive here before Sunday, 21st. At the Queen-street Wharf the schooner i Waiapu was yesterday taking in freight for East Coast ports, whither she is to sail tomorrow. Yesterday afternoon the barque Lutter- j worth made preparations for proceeding on her voyage to Portland, Oregon. Neville, from Dunedin via Southern ports with passengers and mails, arrived at 9.15 a.m. yesterday. She left Dunedin at 3.15 p.m. on Ist, called at Lyttelton on 2nd, Wellington on 3rd, Picton on 4th, Nelson on sth, returning to Wellington on 6th for 'Frisco mail; left there at i>. 15 p.m., and arrived at New Plymouth at 0.20 a.m. on 7th ; sailed thence at 10.40 a.m.; crossed the bar at 9.15 p.m. and anchored till yesterday morning, coming up to the wharf as above. She experienced light variable winds from Dunedin to Wellington ; thence to arrival strong southerly winds with high seas and dull rainy weather. The Northern Co.'s s.s. Glenelg, which left for Wanganui on Sunday morning, put back yesterday, owing to the strong southerly gale blowing. The Gairloch was also detained on account of the bad weather.
