A Dr. Jean Brouottier, of Sydney, who was lately making a tour of this colony, writes to the Buller Miner (Westport) upon a discovery he made in that district. It appears that the doctor visited a cave near Cape .Foul wind quarries, and carried away with him some of the stalactites to Sydney. When he got home he took the specimens of the stalactite for a close examination to count the seasons it took to grow. To his great surprise he found that the stalactite contained the finger of a man completely petrified — skin, flesh, bones, and all, turned into a hard stone. He remembered that in visiting the cave he noticed something strange about a certain cluster of stalactites that made him feel very queer. It looked twice as big as himself, and was just like the rough outline of a man. But he dismissed that feeling by what he considered better judgment. Now that he is satisfied that something strange exists in that case, ho offers a reward of £00 to anyone who will carefully remove the cluster of stalactites and stalagmites containing the man, and pack it carefully, and forward it to his address. If there be any truth in the doctor's statement, would it not be worth the while of our museum authorities to take steps to secure such a curiosity ?
