Sailed : Schooner Gisborne, last night. WELLINGTON. October Arrived: S.s. Rotorua, from Nelson ; s.s. Arawata, from Fiji, via Auckland : s.s. Penguin, from Lyttelton. Sailed: S.s. Waihora, for Sydney. S.s. Manapouri, for Auckland, via the East Coast. Passengers : Miss Harding, Mesdames Pinkerton and Pilcher, Messrs. Pinkerton, Pilcher, Edmunds, Cheal, and McPhee; seven steerage. S.s. Rotorua, for Taranaki and Onehunga. Passengers : Messrs. Turner, Hydes, Meyers, Cruickshank, and Smythe. PORT CHALMERS. October 7.— Arrived : Beautiful Star, from Oamaru; Invercargill, from Invercargill. Sailed : Crest of the Wave, for Lvttelton ; Progress, dredge, for Oamaru ; s.s. Doric, for Lyttelton, with 11,000 bales of wool, skins, and leather, and 12,141 carcases of frozen mutton ; Star of the East, barque, Haveron, for Auckland.
R.M.S.S. TONGARIRO.
Wellington, Sunday.— N. _. S. Co.'s direct steamer Tongariro arrived at 11.20 p.m. on Saturday from London, via Plymouth, TenerifTe, Capetown, and Hobart. She brings 141 passengers of all classes (37 of whom were landed at Hobart), 213 sacks mails, and 2000 tons of cargo, 000 being for Wellington, 500 for Lyttelton, 350 for Auckland, and 550 for Dunedin. The Tongariro left Plymouth after embarking mails and passengers at 2.6 p.m. on August 25, and experienced light airs and thick weather across the Bay of Biscay, and to Tenerifle, where she arrived at 4.3 a.m. on August 30. After coaling she left again at noon the same day, and experienced one day's N.E. trades, then the S.W. monsoon and rainy weather prevailed to the equator. From thence fresh S. E. trades were held to Capetown, the steamer arriving there at 11.26 a.m. on September 14. After coaling and provisioning the Tongariro left the Cape at 6.47 p.m. the same day. She fell in with light easterly winds, which lasted for three days, and in running the easting down in 48 deg. S. continuous S.W. winds and snow were encountered. She reached Hobart at 5.25 p.m. on October 2nd. After landing 37 passengers there for Australian ports she left again at 10.7 p.m. for Wellington, meeting on the passage across a strong N.VV. gale and heavy sea. She passed Cape Farewell at 12.5 p.m. on October 6th, and arrived at Wellington as above, the passage from Plymouth having occupied 41 days 21 hours .15 minutes, the actual steaming time being 41 days 3 minutes. The Tonganro's passengers for Auckland are :—Saloon : Mr. R. E. Isaacs. Second saloon: Misses E. Bates, E. Ellingham, Mr. S. E. Fogwill, Mrs. Fogwill and infant, Misses Fogwill (6h Masters Fogwill (3), Mr. D. Grant, Mr. W. H. Tonar. Third cabin : Mr. G. Cottle, Mr. and Mrs. Holland, Miss Holland, Masters Holland (3), Mr. W. G. H. Jackman, Mr. A. Matthews, and Mrs. Sheffield.
