Four first offenders were punished at the Police Court yesterday morning for drunkenness. Mr. J. Clendon, R.M., presided. A farewell meeting to Messrs. J. G. Carr and H. Rotherhain will be held in the Temperance Hall on Monday next. The programme will be of an interesting character, and it is hoped there will be a good number of friends. Both gentlemen nave been active workers in all branches of the temperance movement, and Brother Carr has been identified with the Rechabite Order since its formation, having filled all offices in both« Tent and _ District. Ho has now to resign the District secretaryship, owing to his leaving for America. Mr. Rothernam has also been an enthusiastic worker, and the Hope of Auckland Tent loses a good secretary. Particulars of the meeting appear elsewhere.
