FIRE AT WAIUKU.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waiuku, Friday. A destructive fire occurred yesterday, shortly after noon, by which a large house, owned by Henare Kaihau, and occupied by Mr. J. Flavell, was totally destroyed. It appears that the occupants were away from home, but before leaving, after having din ner, put what fire there was out by pouring some water on it. Mr. Flavell was working some half a mile away, and seeing some smoke, sent one of his boys up on the rising ground to see where the fire was, when he said hethought the house was on fire. They immediately ran as fast as they could, but before reaching the building some of the neighbours had arrived. As all the doors were locked they had to break in, and managed to save only a few light things, as the whole place was in flames. The house was insured in the Norwich Union for £275, but Mr. Flavell's furniture was uninsured, by which he is a great loser, having lost a lot of valuable papers, besides some money. The piano and all the heavy goods were destroyed, those present not having time or strength to save them.
