New Zealand Herald Office, The Customs duties to day amounted to £553 2s sd.

Messrs. Arthur and Huddle's Weekly RE- | PORT.—Business for the week has been good ; sales have been well attended, and, as a rule, satisfactory prices have ruled in all departments. Produce has j moved off freely, the potato market being particu- i larly active, sales of this product for the week totalling up close on SO tons, at prices equal to last week's quotations. The demand still continues, prices firm. There is an unsatisfied demand for good cheese, also for butter of prime quality. Values for bacon and hams are unchanged ; a good sale for the best cures. There is no change to report in the price of onions ; supply small. Carrots j lor cattle feed have come forward in large quantities, and in order to clear very low prices have had to be accepted. Auction sales for the week have been eight in number. On Monday a sale of unredeemed pledges from Mr. lieesing's office attracted a very large audience, but bidding was not so brisk as usual. A sale of household furniture at" Ponsonby on the same day resulted well. Tuesday, sales'of bananas, ex Wainui, and blasting powder, at the mart. Wednesday, our usual furniture sale at the mart: fair business done. Thursday, sale of llobart fruit, ex Rotomaliana, and a stock of drapery ; at the latter, a large number of lines were quitted at very satisfactory prices. Friday's market sale wis, as usual, largely attended throughout ; entries in all departments full. Produce of every description was in pood demand. Poultry came forward in good numbers, and for all in good condition high prices ruled. Not many pigs entered.; what sold were well bred and realised good figures. Mr. Alexander Aitken's Market Report for the week ending September 22 Business in general has been very brisk, every kind of produce meeting with ready "sale. Potatoes were in short supply, and there is a demand for any quantity at payable prices. Poultry in very large supply, more of these could also have been sold well. Eggs show a slight rise, butter a decline. Hams and bacon in large supply ; a large quantity quitted at late prices. Carrots are a drug, heavy supply ; prices offered at Friday's sale were very low, consequently very fewwere sold. Cheese in good supply, nothing but the best quality commanding sale at a high price; holders will require to sell at once. Some new make was received this week from Wairoa, and several farmers have already started to make. Fruit: Good supply of Hobart and Sydney; no local. Vegetables in good supply ; prices advancing. On ! Tuesday a sale of pure-bred poultry was held, but | was not altogether successful, the attendance was j very large, but the only kinds commanding attention were black Spanish and canaries, these sold very well: Spanish realised 4s <Jd to 10s each; Mr. Cornwell's canaries realised lis 6d to 23s each ; others, 6s to 12s each. At the sale of Mr. Williams' furniture and effects there was a large attendance, and every article sold at very satisiactory prices.
