There is also splendid while sandstone country in the rise. I have started two men to drive northward on the leader in the footwall of the main reef at No. 4 level. This leader is about four inches in thickness, and is in a good channel of country. The winze on the No. 6 leader is down a depth of 14 feet (5 inches. The leader in the bottom of the winze is about five inches in thickness, and the cross lender six inches. Colours of gold were seen freely through the quartz when breaking down both the leaders. The fourth stope on the No. 7 leader is along 37 feet. The leader in the face of this stope is five inches in thickness. Gold was seen freely through the quartz when breaking down tiie leader. The eighth stope west on the main reef, and hangincwall leader is along 35 feet. Dabs and colours of gold were seen through the quartz when breaking down the hangingwall leader in this stope. The main reef in this stope is lying very fiat. When this stope is taken out I will start a leading stope east on the main reef over No. 3 level. The ninth stope on the main reef west, which is on the same level as the intermediate level, was started yesterday. The reef is also lying very flat in this stope. The leading stope on the hangingwill leader over the intermediate level is alonj: 34 feet. The leader in the face of this stopci is about 9 inches in thickness. Gold was sseen through the quartz when breaking down the leader. Thirty-three loads of quartz have been crushed during the week for the return of 103oz of amalgam. The battery has been running two shifts during the week—lo heads on Company's quartz, and 10 heads on public crushing. Seven loads of tailings have been put through the berdans during the week, for the return of l:>oz lOdwt of amalgam. The battery and winding engine are in good working order. The mine manager wirt:d yesterday : *" 63 loads quartz and 101b picked stone for 740r cold." Saxon.—The reef at No. 5 level is a nice compac,: body of stone from 1 foot to 14 inches in thickness, carrying excellent mineral, but no gold has been seen in it this week, and the country is geninc tighter again. The contractors have driven 2\ feet, making 3S feet for the fortnight, and 27S feet from the shaft. The ninth stope on the main reef from No. 4 level is urj to the boundary, and the tenth 4 or 5" feet Irom it. When this is taken out, '.his block from No. 4 to No. 3 levels will be exhausted. The drive on the footwull reef. No. 3 level, has been extended and timbered 10 feet; the leading stope has been advanced 12 feet, the second 11 feet, the third 10, the fourth 9, the fifth 13, and the sixth 8 feet. In all these stones the reef is from 10 to 12 inches thick, and shows colours of gold when broken down. The drive from the third stope on the hangingwall reef has been advanced about three feet with a reef about 1 foot thick, in which colours of gold are seen, and 5 or 6lb of picked stone (reported on Saturday last) have been obtained from it. The fourth stope has been advanced 11 feet, and produced the '201b of picked stone wired yesterday. The fifth stupe has been advanced 7 feet. This reef is about 1 foot ;hick, and shows colours of gold all through. On No. 1 footwall leader the sixth stope has been advanced 11, the seventh 9, and the eighth 9 feet.
