THE NEW REFUGE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —With regard to the controversy re the Old Men's Refuge I would beg to suggest that a better site than any of the three named would be, say, Avondale or New Lynn. Sufficient, land could no doubt be bought very cheaply to establish a small farm, where the inmates would be far happier attending to pigs, poultry, cows, raising vegetables, &c., tnan sitting about doing nothing, discontented, and thinking over their former positions and chances lost. The district I mention is easily accessible by road and rail for friends and official visitors. A good orchard could be started, taking a pattern from Captain James.—l am, etc., Taurus. Auckland, September 16, ISSS. [All the argument is in favour of some such place as the above, but the Charitable Aid Board have determined otherwise.— Ed.]
