THE WHITECHAPEL MURDERS.
INEFFICIENCY OF THE
DETECTIVE FORCE.
A SCATHING ARTICLE. [press association.]
London, September 14. The impunity with which the Whitechapel murders were committed lias drawn general attention to the inefficiency of the detective force. The Daily Telegraph, in a scathing article on the subject, exposes the glaring inefficiency and disorganisation of that branch of the service, and declares that the public will tolerate it no longer. The Telegraph considers that Mr. H. Matthews, Home Secretary, as an administrator is a fantastic failure, for his repeated displays of weakness have brought the Government into general discredit.
