DAIRY FLAT.

I notice in the last issue of the Weekly NEWsthat "A. Tramp, Esq.," has been obliged to procure a steed of good pedigree to convey his illustrious person to the fastnesses of thy North, there to find an asylum where he shall be out of the ■way of Major Hamlin and his infuriated Waiuku Cavalry. Judging from his account of his ride from Lake Takapuna to the Wade, he would appear to have suffered considerably from the blast of the elements while navigating the "blasted, heaven-forsaken Okura ranges." I do not think anyone here feels much sympathy for poor "Tramp." I think he has onfy got his deserts for acting so shabbily as to pass by without even giving us a call. Had he done so, and given a good report, he certainly would have gained for himself an immortal fame among our corps of gallant, well-drilled gumdiggers, manv of whom read the Auckland Weekly News regularly. Here he would have been perfectly safe from the attacks of the " blast," or Major Hamliu's Cavalry, and the irrepressible Sam Barriball; and, truth being stranger than fiction, he may eveu have loeen promoted to the rank of general-in-chief of the ever-victorious forces operating against the kauri gum. Or. if it had better suited him, "A. Tramp, Esq.' could have made hie way to the homesteads of our farmers and orchardists, where he would have been welcomed and safe, and could at his leisure have studied the habi 4 of the Hessian fly and the codlin moth, if he could find any specimens here. Mr. C. East starts a dancing class here this week. , , The Rev. Mr. Buchanan preached here at three p.m. on Sunday. The rev. gentleman took for his text Hebrews ii., 3, " How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation." I am sorry to say th-e congregation was but small.—[Own Correspondent, faeptember 10.]
