"DESDEMONA" SHOOTS "IAGO."
A PARIS LOVE INCIDENT. The horsewhip is still used on occasion by outraged females on your side of the Channel. Here the revolver and vitriol seem to enjoy a pretty equal share of their patronage. " All Paris" is discussing a painful and dramatic incident which occurred the other day within the boundaries of the fortifications. The story is briefly this. A young lady was engaged to be married to a young gentleman. For once in a way it was a match "of inclination," as the saying goes ; but an lago, in the person of another young gentleman, stepped in and more than hinted to the bridegroom-elect that he had himself had a very desperate flirtation with the object of his affections. The lady's family, to their utter bewilder, ment, received a formal letter breaking off the match. An explanation was demanded and frankly given. lago was shown to be a rejected suitor, and the young man, vowing vengeance, started in search of his false friend ; but he was forestalled by hisjiancce, who, taking her father with her as chaperon and witness combined, also issued forth in pursuit. They came up with lago in the street. The father reproached him bitterly, but with a sarcastic smile ho coolly replied hat ho owed them no explanation, oracularly adding that the marriage would not take place after all, and then he fell to the ground, his shoulder pierced with a bullet which the young lady, exasperated by his insolent demeanour, had discharged from her father's revolver. lago was badly hurt, and borne into a. chemist's shop. The father pushed his daughter into a cab and drove her off to the nearest police station to avoid the disgrace of a public arrest. He had no idea that the young lady had possessed herself of the pistol. She, however, has so many precedents on her side that, if all the facts are as stated to be, the odds are overwhelmingly in favour of her coming off with flying colours.—Daily Telegraph. ______________
