Messrs. Arthur and Bcddle s w keklt Re port.—The week has been a comparatively quiet one. Only five auction sales held, and all in the mart. There was a large attendance, but the quality of the fruit told against high prices. Wednesday's furniture sale at the mart passed off fairly well, though the ati tendance was not so large as usual. For Friday's ! market sale, entries in all departments were very numerous. Poultry pens were all full, and lor the better class of birds high prices ruled. The market is overstocked with potatoes and carrots, and values have suffered in consequence. Local bacon and hams have come forward freely, and all of good cures were cleared at a satisfactory figure. Onions are in plentiful supply with no alteration in prices. There is next to no local cheese ill the market; prime Southern finds ready sale. The value of butter has declined somewhat, but there is still a food sale for both fresh and corned of first quality. Mr. Alexander Aitken's weekly report for the week ending September Bth : Business has been fairly brisk, farm produce meeting with better demand at slightly improved prices. Table potatoes of good quality have met with ready sale at fair prices, but small seed is very dull, most planters prefer to cut their seed ; about 30 tons of these kinds are now on hand and selling very slow, kidneys are almost unsaleable. Grain is scarce and firm. Poultry: The supply was fair, the receipts were as follows: Fowls, 963 head ; turkeys, 75 head ; ducks, 80 ; pigeons, 30 ; pigs, 23. Prices on the whole were good. Vegetables :In small supply. Bacon and hams : In good supply, prices about the same. Fresh butter: Supply largely increased. Eggs : Good supply, average price higher. Corned Butter : None, and greatly wanted at price of fresh, if good. Cheese : Good supply, sales small, prices high. Groceries: In small supply, demand dull. Fruit: No local received. Onions : Nothing but inferior kinds received, good ones - high pnee. , Amongst all the leading produce merchants and auctioneers in Auckland that sacks are weighed in free of charge, and if farmers persist in being paid for sacks, buyers only give 5s per ton less for the contents, which represents fivepence per sack, the only cases where sacks are charged are onions, chaff, carrots, and vegetables. The sale of plumbers' stock, held on Thursday, was largely attended, but competition was very dull; prices ruled very low in many cases. The sale of island fruit, held on Fridav, at 10.30 a.m., was very largely attended, and 500 bunches bananas! ex Wainui, sold well.
