Thames, Tuesday. Messrs. John DANBYand H. L. Koefoed were to-day nominated as candidates to represent the South Ward in the Thames Borough Council. As only one candidate is required, an election will take place on the 13th inst. [press association.] Wellington, Tuesday. The body of Mr. E. The defence set up an alibi, and brought evidence to show that the prisoner was wearing a yellowish vest on the day the witness for the prosecution swore she was wearing a dark brown one. The trial concluded at 7 o'clock, when the jury returned a verdict of "Not guilty." Dunedin, Tuesday. The Hauroto took away to Melbourne, to-day, 16,000 bags of oats. She went down the Victoria Channel drawing 19 feet 6 inches. Patience Graham, a young girl of respectable parents, was charged at the Police Court, to-day, with theft. From the circumstances it appeared to be a case of kleptomania. A jacket which she had taken was almost sure to be recognised, yet she had at once put it on. Those who had suffered were disinclined to prosecute and the case was dismissed.
