THE LEADER NEWSPAPER COMPANY.
A meeting of the shareholders in the Leader Newspaper Company was held yesterday at half-past twelve p.m. in Robson's Rooms for the purpose of confirming certain resolutions passed at the recent general meeting. There were over 30 present, and Mr. J. T. Gailick took the chair. The Chairman explained the business, and asked the secretary to read the resolutions referred to. This was done, and the minutes of the last meeting confirmed. Dr. A. O. Knight, one of the directors, then moved, " That the following resolutions be confirmed—(l) That the directors be empowered to accept the offer of £550 made by Mr. D. J. Wright for the purchase of the plant, stock, book debts, and goodwill of the company ; (2) that the company be voluntarily wound up." The mover regretted that they could not carry on the Leader successfully, but as they had not been supported as much as expected by the temperance party and the shareholders, they had to wind up the concern. Mr. J. Waymouth seconded he motion, which was then put and carried without dissent. The Chairman stated that the directors had received the balance of the purchase money, and had paid all liabilities save one bill, which was due in November, and the expenses of the liquidation. He was pleased to be able to say that instead of making a one shilling call, only a sixpenny one would be required. As the purchaser of the plant intended to carry on the Leader as a temperance organ, he hoped that it would be supported both by the temperance people and the outside public.
