THAMES NOTES.

[FROM OUR OWN correspondent.] Thames, Monday. The woman, Mary Davis, charged with murderously assaulting her husband, William Davis, on the evening of the 18th ultimo, was again remanded for another week at the Police Court this morning. The funeral of the late John Johns, who expired suddenly on Saturday evening, took place this afternoon, and was largely attended by all classes of the community. Messrs. L. J. Bagnall, R. Comer, William Deeble, and J. L. Stevens were to-day nominated as candidates for the Totara Riding seat in the Thames County Council, rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr. John Townsend. At a meeting of the Board of Governors of the Thames High School to-day, the application of Messrs. Adams and party for special claims on the Board's endowment at Waiorongomai was still further deferred, pending a reply from Mr. Cotter, solicitor, to a letter sent him by the Board to determine the matter as soon as possible, with a view to making other arrangements which will increase the revenue of the Board. The Warden is also to be communicated with on the same subject. At the same meeting it was resolved to admit four pupils from the public schools for free tuition who had applied for admission after passing the sixth standard, and complying with the other regulations made by the Governors, and the secretary was also empowered to receive other applications up to Monday next, when the school is to resume duties after the holidays.
