ODDFELLOWS' BALL AT OTAHUHU.
The Franklin Lodge, Independent Order 01 Oddfellows, Otahuhu, celebrated their anniversary on Friday night by giving a gran] ball in the Otahuhu Public Hall, which was gaily decorated with bunting befitting the occasion. The Ball Committee anticipated a very large attendance, and their expectations were fully realised, as apart from on lookers it is estimated that fully 100 couples occupied the floor, and the bright dresses of the ladies, andt he regalia of the different orders oi the Friendly Societies present, made up altogether quite a brilliant display. Apologies were received from the District Grand Master, District Deputy Grand Master, and District Secretary, who, owing to illness and other causes, were prevented being present. Representatives were in attendance from the Good Intent Lodge, Fountain of Friendship Lodge; Pride of Onehunga, Court or Foresters; Court Star of the South, Ota • huhu; Court Robin Hood, Panmure; and in response to invitations the local correspondents of the Auckland Press. Professor L:o Medo, who is lecturing in this district, was present also, and very kindly consented to give a recitation, "The Curfew Must NoRing to-night," which was listened to and thoroughly enjoyed by the majority of those present, but the effect was slightly marred by a small, selfish, group which persisted in muttering and giggling in an idiotic fashion. I am pleased to state that these people do not belong to Otahuhu or neighbourhood, I wish to state this, as the same set have, W their unseemly conduct, somewhat interfered with the harmony of other entertainments in the past. The music for the dancing was supplied by Reed and Davidson's band, and it was excellent. Messrs. C. Rowe and 0. Glyn were very efficient M.C.s A sumptuous supper was laid out in the supper room, presided over by P. G. Warren, and was purtaken of by the officers and their guests, when the usual loyal and other toasts were given, and the honours of the Order presented to the visitors, to which Professor Lio Medo and the different delegates responded, and " The Press " was responded to by the Herald correspondent. Dancing wa. kept up until the small hours, and 1 think the Oddfellows may be congratulated upon the pleasant and entirely satisfactory manner in which their entertainment was conducted and patronised.—[Own Correspondent.]
