THAMES NEWS.
[by TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.J Thames, Monday. A petition was in course of signature here to-day, praying the Public Works Minister to allow trains being run on the completed section of the Thames Railway, between Kopu and Grahamstown.
At the Police Court, to-day, Mary Davis was remanded for another week on the charge of attempting to murder her husband. Mr. Lush appeared for the accused, who was eventually released on bail, herself in £100, and two sureties of £100 each, Messrs Mulligan and Osborne becoming bondsmen. The wounded man has not been so well during the last day or two, and no visitors are allowed to see* him.
Frederick Olin, an able seaman on board the ketch Reliance, now loading timber at Turua Mills, was engaged to-day about half-past one o'clock in scraping the mast above the main crosstree, when, by some cause, he slipped and fell into the hold beneath, a depth of 30 feet, and sustained a severe fracture of the skull and a broken arm. He was at once put on board Messrs. Bagnall's Bros.' steam launch and taken to Kopu Wharf, from whence he was conveyed on a stretcher to the Thames Hospital, arriving about half-past four. Dr. Callan, at present in charge of the Hospital, immediately took charge of the patient, and did all possible to alleviate his sufferings, but no hopes are held out for his recovery, the doctor being of opinion that he won't live through the night. Olin is about 30 years of age.
