Among the general items in the additional Supplementary Estimates are a subsidy of £ for £ towards the re-erection of a bridge to the Thames Orphanage £100; printing the Transactions of the New Zealand Institute, £500 ; H. N. Brewer, addition to pension for special services, £25 ; Melbourne Exhibition (additional), £1500 ; conveyance of mails by San Francisco mail service, payment to contractors, to make good special contributions not paid by the United SLates Post Office from the 21st November, 1885, to 31st March, 1888, £2544; repairs to Cook Straits cable, £5000; amount robbed from the mail from Te Kopuru to Auckland, £69 ; collector at Thames, three months, £100 ; suppression of smuggling and illicit distillation, £1000 ; professional report on Gisborne harbour, £115; protection of salmon, £300; introduction of salmon ova, £500; putting in new boilers and repairs to Hinemoa, £3000; good attendance medals Wanganui Education Beard, £134; school buildings, £30,000; settlement in full of Mr. T.
