Co.'s lona arrived with passengers and cargo from Tauranga and Mercury Bay; and when these were respectively disembarked and discharged she took in some freight for the Barrier, for which place she got away at 8 o'clock. The schooner Olive is almost ready to sail, and will probably be cleared for Samoa today. . , _- At noon yesterday the Union S.S- Co. s Te Anau sailed for Melbourne, via the South, with a number of passengers and general cargo. Recent advices from Brisbane notify the safe arrival at that port of the Aucklandowned brigantine Darcy Pratt, with a full cargo of kauri from Mercury Bay. About dusk last evening the s.s. Wellington arrived from Whangarei, with a large numl>er of passengers and a cargo of gum, produce, etc. The following hydrographic notices, received from Admiral Fairfax, are published for general information by the Minister of Marine, Wellington. They are the result of soundings taken by Captain Kane, of H.M.s. Calliope, and Captain Bosanquet, of H-M.s. Opal :— 1. The reefs off Falulu Point near Apia, have been found to extend a good mile farther to seaward than is shown on the chart. A white beacon has been placed on +he point, which should be given a berth of five miles in rounding. Chart affected : No. 1730,Samoan or Navigator Islands, also Pacific Islands Vol. ii. (Central Groups), 1885, p. 42. 2. When proceeding to Port Purvis, and after passing through the Langa Channel, a souuding of 7£ fathoms was obtained, in latitude 9deg. 17min. S.. longitude 160deg. 13 m E. ; and between this position and the S-fathom sounding marked on the chart (No. to £° lomon Islands, September, 1885,) VV.&.W. of Mandoliana Island, several soundings of 10 to 14 fathoms were obtained. As the chart does not show any soundings in the locality, commanding officers of H.M. ships under my orders are enjoined to take every opportunity of ascertaining the depth of water when navigating in this or other localities still imperfectly surveyed.
