Lease of Coal-Mining PaoPERTy.'-The Registrar of the Auckland College Council wrote that application for lease of, and permission to mine under, the northern portion of Lake Hakanoa had been received, and expressed the hope that any rights of mining under the lake may be limited to the northern portion, and not include any portion adjacent to the College reserve. Whaxgarei. —- The Whangarei County Council had applied for a survey of a tramway on behalf of the Timber Company, through certain sections in the Opuawhanga survey district. Mr. Kensington, acting for the Assistant Surveyor-General, bad replied that the Board must first give .the necessary permission, being "leased' lands, and also that it was roost probable that the county would be required to move in the usual, manner under the Public Works Act, and also with the consent of .the lessees. The application was for .the .right <to .build a tramway through certain village sec tions at Whana»aki, and the Council was willing to grant the application, but -as no road had been laid off they requested the Beard to authorise the survey at,once, and the Council would then authorise the formation of the tramway. The application was granted. Timber Floatage.—Messrs. Coates and Kendall applied for to erect a driving dam on section 95, EL-aiwaka (their own property). They should have to (drive through section 96, that being the only section which did not belong to them, and when it was put up for .sale, they would be' competitors for it. This was an application for an' additional dam on the same stream a? that for which license will issue, but it was not mentioned in the first application nor in the notice to property-owners affected. Section 96 was leased under the perpetual leasing clauses to Mr. Steward, and as the making of a dam above his property may affect him, the Assistant Surveyor-General thought that his consent should be got first. It was agreed to reply accordingly. Quarry Reserve. —A quarry reserve at Whangamarino was vested in the Waikato County Council. Opotiki Road Board. — The secretary closed a plan showing a proposed road 15 chains in length to open up deferred payment land, which the Board was desirous of constructing out of deferred payment money, and they applied for the sanction of the Lands Board. A memo, from the Assistant Surveyor-General was received intimating that the endowment contained a good deal of kauri. He would recommend that the application should _ not be granted until much further information was to hand. Deferred. Opotiki. — Robert Thompson asked to have lots 439 and 440, town of Opotiki, offered fop lease at as low a price as possible, as the land was subject to floods, and only fit for grazing purposes. He was not prepared to give more than os an acre for the lots. It was pointed out that the only way to meet Mr. Thompson's terms would be to give a yearly permission to occupy. The lands were of little value, but being town lands could not be sold for less than £30 an acre. It was agreed to communicate with the Town ' Board of Opotiki. Awaking.—Emily F. Elliott, the successful drawer of section No. 478, for which her son, John Burton Elliott, was also an applicant, asked to be allowed to transfer to him, and that the deed of lease should be prepared in his name. The application was refused, as there was no power in the Board to grant such permission. Extension or Time.—Thomas Kennedy, a homestead settler in Te Aroha, applied for an extension of time in which to erect his house. Granted. G. Kelly made a similar application in regard to his selection at Waioeka. The permission was granted, provided instalment of rent due is paid up. WAraAC.—A. G. Harrison, homestead settler, asked permission to remove a few kauri trees from his selection. The ranger reported that though the section was selected in 1882, the selector did not reside in it till 1885. The application was refused. Opuawhanga. —G. Lacassie, a homestead settler, wrote explaining the reason for his mother's non-residence on the selection, having met with a serious accident.
