VAILE'S RAILWAY SCHEME.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —The ridiculous demand of the Government for a deposit of £45,000 cash, certainly proves that the Railway Department are fully alive to their own weakness, and further, that they have no intention of making any real reform in the working of the railways of the colony. It is now clear t0 every thinking man that the main object of the uovt-onment is to take permanent charge of the raiv., Bygj and to CO mmitthem to the care of certax. Commissioners. In such an eventuation there «-mjl(J no De two opinions as to what would -mutually happen. I think it would be the duty 0 f our Mayor to immediately call a public meeting, in order that the voice of the people may be heard on this important sub ject, affecting as it does our best interests. —lam, &c, Spectamur Agendo.
