Mr. Lawson stated that for the present the business was being carried on under the supervision of Mr. Allen's .principal assistant. The book debts were £1581, but the debtor had estimated them as worth £1100, but Mr. W. L. Mitchell stated that he considered them as likely to produce no more than £500 at the most. The stock was valued at £1800. Mr. Mitchell said he was prepared to make an offer for the assets (the stock and book debts) of 6s 8d in the £1. Some discussion ensued, Messrs. Clark and Calvert objecting to the sum as too small. Mr. Mitchell suggested that a committee of creditors be appointed to go into the figures, and estimate the stock and assets afresh. The creditors said that if this was to be done, it had better be.done at once by the Official Assignee. After some debate upon the values of stock, &c, Mr. Mitchell made a second offer of 10s in the £1 in bills of three, six, nine, and twelve months, guaranteed. Mr.. Clark objected to the terms as too long, and moved that "The offer of Mr. Mitchell, of 10s in the £1 on the assets of £3-100 be accepted, on condition that the bills bo at two, four and six months, and the guarantor approved by the Assignee." Mr. J. P. Hooton seconded, and the motion was carried.

Mr. Field proposed that the discharge of the debtor be not granted because of his action in not giving his creditors the option of a compromise, and in his sale of his furniture, and the generally unsatisfactory nature of his replies. An an amendment, Mr. Campbell moved, and Mr. Humphreys seconded, " That the Assignee bo requested to facilitate the discharge of the debtor."
