[press association.] London, August 21. The English wheat market shows a general advance of sixpence. The Continental markets also show an upward tendency, whilst in the American markets prices are advancing firmly. The average price for English wheat is now 35s 9d. Although a large number of foreign cargoes have arrived, nearly all off coasts have been sold.
The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,088,000 quarters, and for the continent 472,000 quarters. . The American visible supply of wheat is 20,250,000 bushels. M. Licht, the sugar expert, estimates the European beet crop for the current season will amount to 1,750,000 tons, being a surplus of 315,000 tons over the estimate given in June last. The. market rate of discount is 2§.
London, August 23. Two Australian wheat cargoes have been sold at 37s 6d. The Blengfell's cargo realised the same price. Four thousand five hundred quarters, Adelaide shipments for prompt delivery, have been sold at 38s 3d.
Australian frozen meat is quoted at 4 8 d.
