THE PARIS UNIVERSAL EXHIBITION OF 1889.
An exhibition of great importance will be opened in Paris of the products of all countries on the sth of May, 1889, and although we are still busy about the Melbourne Exhibition, it would be well to be looking forward to Paris, where there will be an enormous gathering. Count de Jouffray d'Abbans, French Consul-General for New Zealand, writes to us as follows on the subject:—" It would be very important and profitable for the timber industry at Auckland to send exhibits to the Paris Universal Exhibition to be held on the sth of May, 1889. Samplesjf of woods, manufactured articles, inlaid tables, &c. r would attract a great deal of attention, and prepare a market for those industries. Exhibitors could send exhibits to be disposed of to collectors, museums, &c. Curios of any kind would also find a ready sale, as the Exhibition will be visited by millions of people. Mineral exhibits would attract to New Zealand capital from Franco and other parts of Europe, where capital can always be found for mining enterprise. France imports annually direct from Buenos Ayres wool worth £7,000,000, frozen mutton, &c. She would import as well from New Zealand." Count d'Abbans, during his official residence in New Zealand, has shown great anxiety to advance the interests of the colony, and we believe he would be quite ready to give any information wanted about the Paris Exhibition.
