SYDNEYj August 22. Owing to an error in transmission in a cable published this morning, it was made to appear that Admiral Try on favoured an expenditure of £10,000,000 for purchases of ironclads, whereas i( should have read " Japan is favourableetc."
THE 'FRISCO MAIL SERVICE. Melbourne, August 22. Mr. J. H. Witheford, of Auckland has interviewed Mr. F. T. Derham, the Postmaster-General, with reference to the San Francisco Mail Service, and suggested that Victoria should joia with New South Wales in an effort to maintain the service,making Melbourne headquarters.
THE OUTRAGE IN A POLICE CELL. Sydney, August 22. Robert Hewart, who was convicted on a charge of causing the death of Thomas Park, by assaulting him while contined in a cell at the Central Police Station, on the 25th of May, will bi executed on September 11th.
